Glacier Girl back in her element

Created in the iron might of America at war, the P-38 Lightning F fighter rolled off assembly lines in 1942, and one in particular had a date with destiny.

Restored to her days of promised glory, the P-38 known to thousands of fans as Glacier Girl flew again in 2002, six decades after she crashed-landed, storm tossed and fuel tanks spent, on the foreboding frozen surface of Greenland.

Training with the 'kids'

When Vered German, 61, of Herzliya decided to take yoga classes, she looked for a studio near her home, convenient hours, and an experienced yoga instructor of the "appropriate age." The appropriate age, says German, was not "a teacher who could be my youngest son." She found a nearby studio that offered classes that suited her schedule, and an instructor of the "appropriate age" - Clara Shatzman, age 80. Two years later, German no longer does yoga, but Shatzman is still teaching at the same place.

Not everyone who seeks a yoga, fitness or running trainer finds one older than himself. As a growing number of seniors turn to fitness training and sports for leisure, a growing number of young people turn to fitness training and sports as a profession. As a result, many trainees are significantly older than their young trainers.

5 Not-So-Healthy Health Foods

Before you pour yourself a bowl of Cranberry Almond Crunch cereal, snack on that tub of yogurt, reach for the whole grain bread or quench your thirst with a bottle of enhanced water, you might want to do a little label sleuthing. According to a recent report from Baylor Health Care System in Texas, many foods labeled as fat-free, cholesterol-free or all-natural that we think are healthy are no better, and in some cases worse, than typical processed foods.

Take that cereal; it has more sugar than a bowlful of Cocoa Puffs. Elizabeth Somer, registered dietitian and author of "10 Habits That Mess Up a Woman's Diet," blows the whistle on some of those so-called "healthy" foods.
